At Esperino EPAL Rethymnou we put our motto into practice: "It's never too late!". Always prioritizing our students and their unique circumstances—as most of them are working adults—we strive to offer them the best possible education and specialization in their fields, alongside experiences that extend beyond the classroom. Within this framework, our school undertook and completed an Erasmus+ program during the 2024–2026 school years, titled "Professional Readiness with 21st Century Skills at Esperino EPAL."
On Tuesday May 12th 2026, we had the pleasure of presenting the results of the four mobilities that took place. During the event, which was open to the public and attended by the entire school community, the 24 students and 4 teachers who participated shared the knowledge and experiences they gained from the program.
Specifically, the results presented were:
a. The visit of 12 students specializing as Tourism Business Employees, Childcare Assistant Professionals, and Aesthetics and Beauty Therapists, accompanied by teachers Ms. Revekka Gasparin and Ms. Maria Tsirka, from February 2 to February 7, 2025, to the city of Barcelos, Portugal.
b. The visit of 12 students specializing as PC and Network Technicians, Electrical Systems, Installations, and Networks Technicians, Vehicle Technicians, and Thermal/Hydraulic Installations and Oil & Natural Gas Technology Technicians, accompanied by teachers Ms. Styliani Katharaki and Mr. Andreas Ioannidis, from February 2 to February 7, 2026, to the city of Schkeuditz, Germany.
c. The "Job Shadowing" visit of 2 teachers, Ms. Anastasia Rigaki and Ms. Styliani Katharaki, from March 24 to March 28, 2025, at the IES Antonio Gala high school in the city of Alhaurín el Grande, Spain.
d. The "Job Shadowing" visit of 2 teachers, Ms. Chrysoula Kapnia and Ms. Athina Papadaki, from March 2 to March 6, 2026, at the BHAK high school in the city of Eisenerz, Austria.
After the program coordinator, Ms. Anastasia Rigaki, briefly outlined the goals of the project and the benefits gained by both students and educators, the floor was given to the 24 participating students. With enthusiasm, vivid descriptions, and often great emotion, they recalled the knowledge they acquired, the experiences they lived, getting to know the host country, and interacting and discussing with students from many different countries—memories that will stay with them for a lifetime. All of this was made possible through an Erasmus+ journey that helped them broaden their cognitive—and personal—horizons.
Following this, the 4 teachers who took part in the "Job Shadowing" mobilities presented the similarities and differences between the educational systems of Spain and Austria compared to Greece, focusing on teaching conditions, goals, and the methods used in each system. In fact, they noted that the exchange of views with fellow educators in the host countries was invaluable, as all of the insights gained can elevate the standard of teaching at our own school.
The event concluded with the firm belief that Esperino EPAL Rethymnou will continue to organize initiatives that equip our students with the knowledge, skills, and experiences needed to feel like vital and productive members of an ever-evolving world.
