The Evening Vocational High School of Rethymno spreads its wings by participating in an ERASMUS+ program in Portugal!!!
From February 2 to February 7, 2025, 12 students from the fields of Economics and Administration, specifically from the Tourism Business Employees and Health, Welfare and Wellbeing departments of the Aesthetic Art and Nursery Assistants departments of the Evening Vocational High School of Rethymno, accompanied by teachers Maria Tsirka and Rebecca Gaspari, traveled to the city of Barcelos, Portugal as part of the approved Erasmus+ project entitled “Professional Readiness with 21st Century Skills in the Evening Vocational High School”. This was the first educational visit out of four that have been planned in Spain and Germany.
The aim of this educational trip was, firstly, the interaction of our students with students from other countries, communication, exchange of views, cooperation between them and secondly, the acquaintance with the technological tools used there in the students' respective professional fields.
There, they met students from Africa, India, England, Romania and Portugal where they collaboratively participated in various activities such as constructions from natural and recyclable materials that they collected from the shores of the Atlantic Ocean, danced local and modern dances and finally played board games.
Through these processes, our students were given the opportunity to practice the English language and communicate with people from different countries, with different cultures, customs and traditions. They became aware of their ecological footprint and developed new ideas for using waste and natural materials from the sea through their creations.
The friendly atmosphere that was created with students from other schools became the occasion for further communication through social media.
Their classmates from the respective specialties who were unable to take part in the educational trip were also able to watch the activities.
The students also visited a Vocational School of Tourism, a modern institute of aesthetics and a kindergarten, learning about tools, techniques and modern good practices in their respective fields.
Finally, they were guided through cultural visits to the surrounding cities, learning about the culture, customs and traditions of the place, discovering similarities and differences with their own culture.
The experience was unique and unprecedented according to the students' testimonies.
New goals, new horizons are opening up for the Evening Vocational High School of Rethymno….
